Tell CBS: Don’t settle Trump’s baseless lawsuit

Last year, Donald Trump sued CBS, claiming that 60 Minutes edited their interview with Kamala Harris to unfairly influence the election. Does he have any evidence to back up his claim? Of course not. But that’s not stopping him from pressing on with his baseless lawsuit. 

Like the authoritarians who came before him, Trump has declared that the free and independent press are the enemy of the people. Now, he’s using meritless lawsuits – and the influence of the presidency – to intimidate news organizations that publish facts and coverage he disagrees with. 

ABC has already settled a $15 million suit and Paramount (CBS’s parent company) could be next. They’re already signaling that they’re willing to settle despite Trump having dubious legal standing and zero evidence of wrongdoing. 

This has serious consequences not just for CBS and 60 Minutes but for all independent media in our country. If Trump is able to wield the power and influence of the presidency to silence media outlets, it will have a chilling effect on anyone who would consider reporting facts that the president doesn’t like.
